As president emeritus of Boost Oregon, a non-profit organization providing education about children’s vaccines, he sits on the medical advisory board and regularly offers workshops and lectures for the community and local healthcare organizations. He is a big advocate of small, personal medical clinics, and assists other physicians in establishing pediatric practices of their own.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Joel is a proud father of two amazing daughters. He loves the Pacific Northwest for getting outdoors with his family including canoeing, biking, birding, foraging for wild edibles, and cross-country skiing. His hobbies include writing and recording music, traveling and learning languages, wood-working, and perpetually fixing up his old house. He is a big advocate for enjoying life, which includes making parenting fun and easy, and hopes to help families raise fun, engaging, thoughtful children that will go out and make our world a better place.
